Already widely used in social housing refurbishment and boiler and central heating installations, our self-supporting casings can be used free standing or secured using mechanical fixings or mastic adhesives, enabling easy removal for routine servicing or maintenance. Cut down the end panel, plinth board or cupboard door you are using for the boxing to the correct sizes to form the required panels. No matter the manufacturer of your boiler, it is a legal requirement that your boiler is accessible for servicing and maintenance. Hide your boiler from view and make it more attractive but ensure that it is easily accessible if required.

The time taken to box in your boiler will vary according to the size of the boiler and the desired finish. You can find more about countersinking and screws in general in our guide to picking the right screw for the job. Put this unit together and place it somewhere near the boiler to see what adaptations you need to make to get it over the boiler. That being said, there is no getting away from the fact that boilers aren’t the most attractive of things, with plastic housing, pipes, control panels and noise creating an eyesore. It’s also worthwhile asking a few different people for quotes on how much they think the job will cost to gauge whether one offer is good value for money.

Installing a boiler directly into a kitchen unit is an effective, tidy way of hiding it away without altering the aesthetics of your room in the slightest. Any labour required to complete the job; doing it yourself will likely be cheaper, provided that you have the tools and experience needed. Boxing in a boiler or housing a central heating boiler can be done using kitchen units, or spare parts from kitchen units so that it matches your existing kitchens look and feel.

Boxing in a boiler does not require planning permission and is not directly affected by building regulations. Boilers can be unsightly beasts but with a little thought they can be hidden away by either placing a full kitchen wall unit cupboard around them or using bits and pieces from kitchen end panels, plinth boards, old cupboard doors and even tongue and grooved matchboard. As with our ‘L’ shaped and ‘U’ shaped pipe boxings, our boiler pipe boxings are manufactured from moisture resistant UKTR compliant, sustainably sourced materials. Covering a kitchen boiler in a matching cabinet makes sense, but might not be the best solution for a boiler located in a bathroom or bedroom space. The right hand side of the unit has been fixed to battens on the wall to keep the unit away from the pipes. Just make sure that the boiler you choose is large enough to meet your household's hot water and heating requirements; the more radiators, bathrooms, and people there are in your home, the bigger your boiler will need to be.

Talon’s Boiler Box Cover is made from the highest quality uPVC and is resistant to both acid and alkali substances. Fix angle brackets to the inside of the units top and bottom to allow the spread of the weight of the unit evenly. Manufactured, as standard, from UKTR compliant sustainable timber, they’re very quick, easy and cost-effective to fit, taking less than half the time and cost of site made alternatives, which is an advantage when used as part of ongoing housing refurbishment or heating upgrade programmes. Once the specifications have been determined, our team then assembles a custom designed boiler in a box solution based on your requirements. You can see that by using some correctly coloured sealant and some tiling trim a really first-class job can be achieved with just a little ingenuity and time.

Your first step is to measure your boiler accurately, as you need to find the right unit to box it in. Sometimes in situations where space is limited to both add a complete housing unit that covers the boiler and allow enough “breathing space” this is the only option available. Boxing it into a cupboard or storage unit provides an additional layer of acoustic dampening that will help prevent your boiler from making itself heard. With the help of a friend or family member, offer the unit back to the wall in its final resting position and level it up using your spirit level.
