But as a character we’re positioned not to like, that’s kind of giving teenagers the thumbs up to be so disrespectful to adult women in their lives and to slut shame ‘The Other Woman’. I wish her books had been out when I was a teen because they are just so good and really relatable, and so amazingly feminist too. Like it's just spoken about casually but having that being in books lets young girls know that it's a thing and it's ok to be that way.

And then there’s the zombie movie that Harry is shooting, and in which Audrey acquires the starring role: the genre is so thoroughly distinct from the romantic movies Audrey critiques that it’s a nice foil, even as Audrey’s feminist stance informs her character of the “zombie bride”.And it is SO refreshing and IMPORTANT to read a book in that kind of genre that openly addresses everyday sexism and the everyday problems it brings with it, especially for young women trying to figure out their way with love, sex and the roles they want to play (muha, movie joke). I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone, but I am curious to see why people love it so much if anyone wants to share that with me. But I can assure you - as an Italian that grew up with romantic movies - Nuovo Cinema Paradiso is one the best movie you can see in your life, and I was astonished when Harry described it as one of the best films ever because no one ever remembers it.

I loved it just as much as the first time in this fantasy with a dark romance thrown in as Sonya becomes the Sovereign Auraseer, a position of great honour in the empire of Riaznin. There is a sharp tension in It Only Happens in the Movies delineated exactly by its title: this book aims to critique and subvert romantic comedy tropes, even as it pursues a romance for its protagonist. I don’t care what you sleep in or what you eat or how big your thigh is, nobody who cares about you is going to unless it’s regarding your health. The whole plot-line regarding her family life or her friendship was much better because hello they are more important than a boy who she hardly knows. However, I didn’t love this as much as I’d anticipated and to be honest, I can’t quite put my finger on why just yet.The female character: “They’re always crazy perfect skinny, even though they’re supposedly always munching down burgers and chocolate. Since her parents' relationship imploded her mother's been catatonic, so she takes a cinema job to get out of the house. I totally understand excessive punctuation in texts and social media and hey even reviews, but in a published novel?
